Egon Bernasconi

For more than 20 years I have been a fanatical climber; I have climbed a bit all over the World: Namibia, Madagascar, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina. I have traveled the length and breadth of Europe sampling as much rock as possible. In 2007 I discovered the world of bolting by equipping the magnificent Brontallo wall. The electrifying game of exploring and opening new routes enraptures me, and in the course of 18 years of activity I have opened almost 1000 routes and several multipitchs. Also in 2007 with some friends I founded the group Picalciot, with the aim of promoting climbing in Ticino and especially in Valle Maggia. The collaboration with the great mountain director Fulvio Mariani produced 2 interesting documentaries related to my vertical activity: “Egon’s granite” and “Matematic Rock”.
In 2021 I published my first book “Ticino Rock Falesie” (by Versante Sud). In 2024, the second edition of this work of mine was published. I am currently working on editing a boulder guidebook related to Vallemaggia. I am a mathematician and have been teaching since 2005 in Ticino High Schools. In 2023, I obtained the Swiss rock climbing guide license. I am currently working part-time as a mathematics professor, a climbing guide, a guidebook author and last but not least as a developer of new climbing areas. I live in Giumaglio in Vallemaggia with my wife Julia, our son Nahuel and our dog Manush
